Susan Wall Bumgarner

Susan Wall Bumgarner, 56, of Granite Falls, North Carolina passed away March 26 2008 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. After an almost continuous battle against Inflammatory Breast Cancer, she now has peace with God.

Mrs. Bumgarner was born June 22, 1951 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She returned to her ancestral south, and graduated Sylacauga High School in Sylacauga, Alabama, and the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama.

Mrs. Bumgarner was a public school teacher and a weekly newspaper editor. In later years she was primarily a homemaker in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina where she was very active as a member of East Cooper Baptist Church. Her most regretted loss in her battle with cancer was her inability to sing in the church choir, which she dearly loved.

Susan is survived by her husband, Warren Bumgarner of Granite Falls, North Carolina, two sons, Michael Svencicki of Aiken, South Carolina, Matthew Svencicki of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, a step son, Brandon Bumgarner of Concord, North Carolina, and a step daughter, Ashley Hedrick of Brooklyn, New York. She is also survived by sisters Sandra Rick Dennard, of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Judi Brett Blatchley of Jacksonville, North Carolina, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her parents, Bill and Barbara Wall, of Aiken, South Carolina.

Visitation of family and friends will be conducted Sunday afternoon from 2 until 4 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Home Hodgson Chapel in Savannah, Georgia.

Funeral Services will be Monday at 11 am at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel with interment in Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to The Morgan Welch Inflammatory Breast Cancer Clinic, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Boulevard, Houston Texas, 77030-4009.

My prayers are with you, and condolences on your loss of Susan. I met Susan in Sylacauga in the 7th grade, and remained a friend until graduation. Though far away in distance, my memories of her were always near. She was a very special person.

Hey Ace, Knowing that you and Susan thought the world of each other, it really broke my heart to hear about her demise. While I can't begin to imagine what you've both been through, I'm sure Susan deeply appreciated you always being by her side through the too-short years you had together. I hope you can take solace in that fact yourself. Take care, old friend.

Warren, I've been away from my email and so just learned this morning about Susan's passing. Words seem such a feeble attempt to comfort, but please know that these represent my deepest feelings. My heart goes out to you and to your and Susan's loved ones. The love you two shared and still share is such a remarkable gift. My prayers have been and will continue to be with you. Love,

The news of Susan's passing has greatly sadden us as she fought so hard to beat this medical nightmare. We always considered Susan as a great friend, aunt, and sister-in-law. She was and will always be an important part of our family. We all prayed very hard for a different outcome as we hoped for many more joyful memories between our family and yours. Warren, Barbara, Bill, Michael, Matthew; words cannot express enough our sadness we feel for your loss. Soulmates are the hardest to lose! Our condolences to you and to all members of Susan's extended family. Jerry, EA, Bradyn, Micaela, and Kieran Svencicki, YOUR Canadian family

Warren and all Aunty Susan's family, I was extremely saddened to hear of the loss of my most beloved aunt. I know my family and I will all miss her greatly and have the most fond memories of her. I am lucky enough to have been there to share in the memories of the day she married you Warren and know that she was so happy. I wish I could have seen her at least one more time but am so glad to have the memories of that weekend to treasure forever. Keeping you all in my heart and prayers, Delayney.
